Project Description
This is my final project for the Motion Media Design program. I’m not entirely satisfied with the opening sequence I previously created for the novel The Alchemist. So, I want to explore more scenes and experiment with additional possibilities.
Goal
My goal is to achieve more breakthroughs in composition and lighting.I will not be focusing too much on visual effects.
Role: Concept &Design&Animation
Concept
From a functional perspective, the purpose of a film’s opening is to capture the audience’s emotions and focus, drawing them into a mood that closely matches the story’s atmosphere. With this in mind, I selected visually representative elements and scenes from the story, such as the protagonist’s dream of treasure, the desert, the sword, the crystal goblet, and the black and white stones.

Storyboard
Just like the reference to the narcissistic Narcissus at the beginning of the novel, I start here to establish the necessary story background, providing the audience's mind with essential information. Then, I transition into the dream, emerging from it, and move through various events encountered along the way. Based on this, I connect a sequence of visual images.
Style frame
Before this project, my 3D experience was limited. So, during the development of the style frames, I was challenged by the technical aspects, such as handling lighting and animation. Fortunately, through extensive research and studying various resources, I gained valuable technical support and successfully solved the issues I encountered. Each style frame went through multiple rounds of testing and comparison before achieving the final result.
